Matt Lauer on Sleep Apnea and Snoring
August 27, 2008 6:07 pm Baby Boomers-At Risk For Unusual Reason, Informative Videos, Sleep Apnea and Snoring SolutionsHere’s a great report by Matt Lauer, the host on the Today Show, specific to the problems with Sleep Apnea and Snoring in America.
Once again, this report brings much needed attention to the fact that sleep apnea and snoring is an epidemic that needs to be addressed and treated in this country.
Unfortunately, the only treatment that is mentioned is CPAP, and many people are CPAP intolerant. For these apnea sufferers there are other alternatives that may include oral appliances such as the Full Breath Solution that I use in our clinics near Los Angeles and Irvine, California.
The most important point that is made is this.
Sleep apnea and snoring do not get better on their own. These conditions need to be treated. Please see a doctor, find out what your options are and don’t put it off… it may save your life or the one you love….

This is an excellent report from the Today show.
More people, especially Baby Boomers, need to know that snoring is not just a joking matter, but that it can actually lead to death.
Bottom line, if you have trouble getting to sleep because your partner snores loudly, or if you know you snore, it is important to consult with your health care professional, to find out if you need a sleep study.

Although this segment is helpful to those who are just embarking on their discovery of sleep apnea, it does not touch on the actual implementation of the CPAP mask. It is as uncomfortable as it looks! My doctor gave me a CPAP machine with the nasal pillows and I’d rip it off within the first 15-30 minutes of use. I then tried the full face mask and can now last just over an hour with it on.
Unfortunately, as miraculous as Matt Lauer make this solution seem, there is much discussion via sleep apnea blogs regarding how difficult it is for so many to use it. Although it is the least intrusive solution, it is near unbearable for many to use. The other options (bite plate, surgery) are less effective and more invasive. What gives?

Hey Kimbery…. you may want to check out the OPAP oral interface that is an option for those who do not want to use the mask. It’s a dental (oral) interface for the CPAP machine.
