How New Years Resolutions Effect Sleep Apnea and Snoring
January 17, 2008 11:54 pm Baby Boomers-At Risk For Unusual ReasonI don’t know if you are like me, I love holidays. It’s great to celebrate being alive and having family to share it with. Each new year we have the opportunity to “start over” again and refocus attention on what is really important to us, what goals we want to set, what we want to stop doing, and what we want to start doing better.
Perhaps you have decided that your health is important. Living that “healthy lifestyle” by eating right, getting some exercise, losing weight, and living a more balanced life. You start the year with great gusto and a commitment to do the right things.
What happens? For many people the New Year’s resolutions that they start with such great gusto fall to the wayside. Talk to anyone who goes to a gym right after the New Year. January is a packed month, but then it tapers off and February has less people, March even less… what is it that causes New Years resolutions to be so ineffective?
Here is a great article about “New Years Resolutions And Why They Don’t Work” Read it and see how it may apply to you.
When it comes to Sleep Apnea (or the symptom-snoring) it can be a deadly loss of motivation. This health condition requires a decision to do something about it because it doesn’t go away on it’s own… it’s up to you or a loved one to make a decision and act on it.
That’s where I come in. As a doctor who treats Sleep Apnea, Snoring and CPAP intolerance, I can’t decide for you, I can’t pick up the phone and dial the nunber, but what I can do is be here for you when you do. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see people get their lives back. Get their marriages back. Feel normal again. It’s very fulfilling work and I love what I do.
I hope I can encourage you to make your health seriously and DO SOMETHING today. If you found that your New Years resolution was to do the following, then maybe we need to talk:
NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS OF A SLEEP APNEA PATIENT
- Get more rest because I am tired all of the time.
- Don’t fall asleep at work or at stop signs.
- Get exercise, (but it’s hard because I am tired all of the time)
- Lose Weight, (but it’s hard because I can’t exercise)
- Eat better (but it’s hard because I am too tired to shop and prepare food)
- Move back in the bedroom with my spouse (but it’s hard cause I snore all the time)
- Get my heart checked, cause I feel like it’s working so hard
- Try some new oxygen supplements ( feels like my brain is foggy)
- Learn to concentrate on what I am doing
- Be more grateful and not so crabby
If you see yourself in this list of resolutions, then you may really need to get some help… I am here to do just that.
